Mark Morizio
“Good people, good business”,
says Mark Morizio, IBM Rochester’s Diversity Executive, and
Director of Procurement Engineering. Mark has been nominated to
serve as President of the Diversity Council’s Board of Directors
for 2005.
Mark Morizio came to Rochester in 1998 with IBM and brought his
passion for people to his new role. “Supporting diversity
is the right thing to do for moral reasons, but there is a real
pragmatic business aspect. I believe our goal as an employer is
to provide a welcoming and comfortable environment where people
can excel to meet personal and organizational goals.”
Mark brings this commitment to his volunteer work where he helps
youth to succeed—sometimes against difficult challenges. From
1999 to 2002, he served as President of Rochester’s “A
Better Chance” and joined the Diversity Council’s Board
of Directors in June 2000. Mark’s community activity is symbolic
of how is has worked to connect the IBM community with the larger
community. Under Mark’s leadership, IBM Rochester received
the 2001 Human Rights Commission Award for leadership in promoting
diversity.
Mark’s knowledge of promoting diversity in a business setting
will be critical as the Diversity Council launches a new offering
for local businesses, “Diversity Toolkit for Business.”
This new Diversity Toolkit will help small to medium size businesses
address workplace and marketplace changes through on-site diversity
initiatives. The toolkit is currently being developed but will be
available to corporate members in Fall 2005.
Mark shares his commitment with his family. Mark, Meg (his wife
of 25 years) and 2 daughters, Kelly and Kate, are all members of
the Diversity Council.
