Rise:
Rochester In Support of Everyone
The RISE program was created to build multicultural
understanding. This program was initiated when representatives of
seven ethnic groups of Olmsted County were interviewed to learn
about their experiences and obstacles they face in our community.
Based on the results of the initial study,
the Diversity Council developed a two-phase program to address majority/minority
problems:
RISE Phase 1: Informational
Booklet
The Diversity Council developed a booklet
on the history and cultural influences of Rochester's largest minority
groups and the needs and resources they bring to our community.
About 15,000 copies have been distributed throughout the community.
Follow the link above to read the project
summary. Links to the information developed on each minority are
located in the right bar.
RISE Phase 2: Rochester Guides
The Diversity Council developed a resource
guide to services and groups in the Rochester Area to be distributed
in eight languages via paperback book. This comprehensive guide
offers newcomers information on emergency services, housing, employment,
health and child care, education, community and religious organizations,
social services, transportation, shopping, immigration issues etc.
Copies are available at the Diversity Council office.
