Take the pledge!

The Mutual Respect Initiative to the power of YOU--better known as the purple ribbon campaign--was launched on January 23, 2013, by a coalition of community leaders that included the Diversity Council, the United Way, the Olmsted County Human Rights Commission, Destination Medical Community, RNeighbors, and many more.

The Rochester area is a dynamic, global community that welcomes 1.5 million visitors each year. We are leaders in healthcare, technology and social equity. We take pride in being kind and welcoming to every individual in our diverse community. We cultivate the humility and patience to listen to different opinions, and the courage to speak out for fairness, justice, civility, and respect.

Our ancestors may be from Norway or Vietnam or Somalia. We may attend a church or mosque or temple. We may root for the Vikings, or for the Packers. Our politics may lean red or blue, but we can all agree on purple.

Pick up a purple lapel ribbon at the Rochester Public Library, and show YOUR commitment to exercising freedom of speech with mutual respect. And don't forget to sign the pledge!
