Tired of Politics?
Try the Road Less Traveled...
Election years always seem to highlight
the divisions in our country, as politicians slice us up into
special interest groups (who will get the Norwegian bachelor
farmer vote?) and distance themselves from the opposition (Senator
X is bad for the Powdermilk Biscuit business!) Do you ever
wish you could do something to unite us?
The Diversity Council is looking for people
of all ages, sizes, races, religions, and occupations to join
our team of facilitators. As a Diversity Council facilitator,
you will help K-12 students learn to walk in other people’s shoes and treat them with
respect—regardless of their differences.
The hours are flexible, the pay is good, the
training can be life-changing, and the work is rewarding.
All facilitators receive 35 hours of training
before we send them into the classroom, with in depth discussions
on topics like race and gender, tips on classroom management,
journaling on a class blog, and practice sessions with our curriculum.
The next training course will be held from 1 – 5 p.m. on
August 21, 22, 26 & 28 and September
2, 4, 9 & 11.
This intense learning experience with a
small group of like-minded people is often a profound experience
for participants. One of last year’s facilitators wrote: “The class was very
beneficial for me personally. It has given me a different
outlook in life. It was very enriching and helps in broadening
my view in respect of human beings and hope it makes me become
a better person.” Another added, “It was truly a marvelous
experience.”
Training hours will be compensated at minimum wage. Facilitation
in schools is paid at the rate of $20/hour. Hours are completely
flexible. We post workshops online as they are scheduled, and facilitators
sign up to work whenever they are available.
